In this video, I will try to identify three main problems and downfall of project management. You need to be aware of them.

Don’t tell anyone about this video because we are going to talk about the problems and downfalls of project management.
Recently I talked about benefits of project management quite a lot. But then I there was a comment asking to talk about the downfalls. I thought, well, it should be easy.
It’s not.
Nevertheless, here they are:
First one is… a project manager.
Interesting isn’t it. But a project manager who lacks skill and knowledge to lead a given project is the number one problem. This PM will become a bottleneck of all processes and may make a lot of wrong decisions.
Taking into account that he or she has to make some cornerstone decisions like selecting a PM framework, leadership style, strategy to building stakeholders engagement and so on – the project may be doomed from the start.
It is a serious problem. It is hard to match a Project Manager to the need of a project without actually starting it. It is difficult to develop a PM without putting her into a challenging project as well. So, it is kind of the main downfall of project management.
As a variant of this problem, there is a second downfall – it is a lack of project manager’s efforts. Yes, if a PM doesn’t put enough efforts into leading and managing a project every day. It becomes a problem.
Third, and equally severe comes low project management culture. Project management works best when everyone involved understands how it works, what is his or her role on a project and in a company in general. There should be support for PM’s efforts on all levels and there should specific expertise in managing project in the given industry. Like managing project in software development requires different culture from management in construction.
As far as I could think it through, all the other problems and downfalls can be traced back to these three ones.
